Question:

Question: webpage was reloaded because it was using significant memory

I see this message when on safari and using FB. seems as though my laptop has slowed down. I've already deleted unwanted cookies, emptied my trash. This is a new MacBook pro. Any solutions?

thanks

Sure. Give it a try

Quit Safari

Finder -> Go -> Go to folder... -> ~/Library/Safari

Drag RecentlyClosedTabs.plist to your Desktop (or anyplace you can easily find it again). That way if you decide it was a bad idea, you can always drag it back.

Launch Safari. See if that changes anything.

You might also try launching Safari with the "Shift" key held down. This causes Safari to clean its caches and history. This is a one time deal, not something you would do normally.

Sounds like there is some Javascript running on the Facebook page that is allocating a lot of memory on the Mac. That would have nothing to do with your Mac being old or new.

You could run Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> View -> All Processes

and monitor the "Memory" tab to see if you have WebKit processes that are consuming excessive memory (assumes you are using Safari).

You could try a different web browser

Firefox.com

Chrome.com

as an experiment.

Or even close the Facebook web page from time to time.

Thank you-I followed your instructions. I don't understand what webkit processes are but I can tell you facebook takes up 922.0MB (the most of another Process). At the bottom of the Activity Monitor (my processes) Physical memory is 8.00 GB of that memory used is 6.03 GB cached files 1.86 GB and swapped used 247.8 Why is FB taking up so much memory?

Many thanks!

I was googling a few things and saw this solution:

There is a bug in Safari it that stores a huge list of recently closed tabs and that gets loaded into memory when Safari starts. That file can be a few gigs in size. The solution is to quit Safari and delete the file ~/Library/Safari/RecentlyClosedTabs.plist (empty the trash). After that Safari should run

what do you think?
